VotingSmarter & Aloe Blacc - a livestream on informed voting
With critical elections in 2020, VotingSmarter has partnered with Grammy nominated artist Aloe Blacc for a Facebook Live Q&A discussing voter registration, voter issues, and how VotingSmarter can help.
The virtual event will take place on National Voter Registration Day, September 22nd at 4:00pm PST and will be hosted via Facebook Live, through Aloe Blacc’s Facebook page.
“We all have a duty to our fellow citizens to exercise our right to vote. Voting is the lifeblood of our democracy. It’s time to get educated and to let your voice be heard by casting a ballot, said Aloe Blacc. “I’m happy to assist voters in voting smarter with the VotingSmarter app.”
The VotingSmarter app uses a unique voter interface similar to dating apps to match users with ideal candidates based on issue preferences rather than immutable characteristics or party affiliation. The app was designed to easily educate voters, in order to decrease the frequency of voters going on “blind-votes” at the ballot box, because they often end up feeling like they’ve been “catfished” by politicians after election day.
Millenials and Gen Z could make up over 40% of the electorate if they all showed up in 2020. They are also the group that believes the most that voters should be well informed before they vote. 65% of them in fact think this, however they are also the group that self-identifies as the least-informed.
“Low youth turnout isn’t apathy or laziness, it is uncertainty. Many young people don’t know where to start or who to trust” said Terry Crandall, founder of VotingSmarter. “That’s where VotingSmarter comes in. It isn’t enough to register and show up at the polls, voters need a better shortcut to get informed on where candidates stand on the issues. Our platform is all about being fair, fast, and fun. We have turned hundreds of hours of candidate research into a couple minutes with our ‘dating-app for politics’. We’re thrilled to get more voter education to the masses through this co-hosted event with Aloe, on a topic that we are both very passionate about.”
